NaPoWriMo 2014 Day 28 ‘Random Word I’

napo2014button2

Monday and the last week of this year’s NaPoWriMo challenge…nearly there. Today another long-form poem, fresh as a daisy, freshly pruned from the grey matter.

Random Word I *

Plucked from the dictionary
This random word,
Often seen,
Sometimes heard

Lifted from one page,
Written down on another,
Caught in the memory
Of stranger or lover

The beauty is held
By the beholder,
Age cannot weary
Whether younger or older

Through the needle
A worthwhile journey is travelled,
While placed on you
Your world unravelled

A sense most important
Needed for sight,
Vital assistant
To help read and write

Only three letters long,
Symmetrical to view,
Sheds tears on the page
When parted from you

Can twinkle
Or cry,
Be averted
Or pry

Misdirect
Or be caught,
Be strained
Or distraught

Closed
When at rest,
Full of life
At sparkling best

To be celebrated
And kissed,
For without you
Sadly missed

* ‘Eye’
