NaPoWriMo 2014 Day 26 ‘Listening To Eels’

Saturday, Day 26 and a new long-form poem today, fresh hewn, ink barely dry! Inspired by the band Eels and listening to the new album ‘The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett’ in the rain.

Listening To Eels

I’m sitting in my car,
Listening to Eels,
Rain on my windscreen,
Stationary wheels,
Re-treading a path
I’ve already seen

I’m reflecting on my past,
Listening to Eels,
‘Mistakes Of My Youth’,
Hiding what I feel,
Outside the station,
Running from the truth

I’m killing time,
Listening to Eels,
‘Where I’m Going’, ‘Parallels’
What I feel,
The train pulls in,
Stories to tell

I’m sitting in my car,
Listening to Eels,
Rain’s still falling,
On my stationary wheels,
These ‘Cautionary Tales’
A new life calling

Written in my car whilst waiting at a station, listening to Eels the new album The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett’, which had arrived in the post earlier that day.

Rough draft written in my car: 24/04/14
1st draft completed at home later: 24/04/14
2nd draft: 25/04/14
