NaPoWriMo 2104 Day 6 ‘Pylons II’

Today’s offering is a return to a subject I covered in last year’s NaPoWriMo challenge…Pylons. I was driving through the Derbyshire Dales, in the UK, when the words for this poem came into my head. Well the opening couplet anyway, the rest of the rough draft formed later. I finally realised the poem today (5 April). Ironically, by complete coincidence, the first ‘Pylon’ poem appeared on exactly the same day, April 6, last year.

 Pylons II

Like tall, dark senators they stand,
Guarding this green and pleasant land,
Long lines
Stretched across the valley,
Wires weighed down
By the load they carry

Over the hills they roam,
From power station to heated home,
Reflected strength
Shimmering on the lake,
Humming as they journey on,
Filled with the energy they take
